Day 2: Bangkok Canal Boat and Bike Tour Private (B/L)

Your tour begins at our meeting point near MRT Sam Yot Station at 9:30 am. After a quick bicycle fitting and briefing, we hit the streets. We will be cycling off the main roads along small lanes and alleyways and hop onto canal boats to immerse you in the soul of Bangkok. We will park our bikes at the first Christian community of Santa Cruz and visit the descendants of the early Portuguese traders. We then pedal to the neighbouring Chinese-Thai Wat Kalayanamit Temple, the site of Bangkok’s first Chinatown and Bangkok’s largest sitting Buddhist image.

Next, we make our way to Wat Hongrattanaram. Here we will park our bikes briefly to see a shrine devoted to the first king of Bangkok, Taksin. The chapel of Wat Hongrattanaram is the largest in Thonburi and, according to some, the most beautiful in Bangkok. Cycling back lanes and pedaling along small tree-lined canals, we will arrive at an old wooden market. Centuries ago, trading communities formed along these canals. The former wealth of these communities can be seen in the elegant architecture of the temples they left behind. Take a well-deserved break and enjoy a simple tasty Thai lunch in a local eatery by the canal in the grounds of the community temple.

Marvel at a show of the most unique puppetry in a 200-year-old traditional wooden house on the banks of Khlong Bang Luang. The modern inhabitants of the old wooden trading houses sell artwork and vintage crafts as well as fish food for you to feed the abundant fish in the canal. After stowing the bikes in the back of a long tail boat, you and your guide drift along the ancient canals to Chao Phraya River. Sailing up the ‘River of the Kings’, you will pass the Grand Palace before docking near Khaosan Rd. Once you’ve disembarked from the boat with your bike, we’ll pedal a short distance back to the meeting point to finish the tour around 3:30 pm.

Please Note: Thailand day tours will not operate April 13th to 15th over the annual Songkran (water festival) holidays. We will resume tours April 16th after our guides have enjoyed a well-deserved break. Sorry for any inconvenience and enjoy the celebrations!

    Welcome to Phuket!

Upon your arrival at the airport, meet our representative depending on destination – they will be holding a sign with your surname. Enjoy a convenient, hassle-free transfer to your accommodation.

Embark on a whirlwind culinary journey tasting the flavours of Southern Thailand on this evening quest. Before the food, visit a donation-based barbershop where locals meet regularly to get their hair cut by a professional while socialising –opt for a quick trim if you like! Also visit Kio Thian Keng Saphan Hin Shrine – a beautiful, multi-coloured temple that looks especially enchanting as the sun sets. The guide will explain the temple’s significance to local people, especially noting its role during the Vegetarian festival.

Next, it’s on to the first food stop where we will taste Khanom Chin – a must-try southern Thai dish. These thin rice noodles come recommended by Chef Supaksorn “Ice” Jongsiri, owner-chef of Sorn (Two MICHELIN Stars, Thailand MICHELIN Guide 2022). Local people enjoy eating Khanom chin with their curry of choice, accompanied by the free, fresh condiments and spices offered at the restaurant. It’s entirely up to the diner what they choose to put in their Khanom Chin. This personal aspect of flavouring your own dish makes it a popular choice.

After completing the first food quest, head to the viewpoint on Khao Rang Hill to enjoy the city’s magnificent vistas at sunset if the timing is right. Make sure to have those cameras ready to capture the magical views.

Next, head to the second stop in the centre of Phuket Old Town to try Oh Aew, a shaved ice dessert. Introduced by Hokkien Chinese settlers, it is named after its main ingredient – a jelly made from seeds of the o-aew plant. After cooling down with this delicious dessert, wander along Thalang Road, admiring the pretty blend of Chinese and European-style architecture and exploring the many boutique shops. Finally, enjoy the bustling night market on the hunt for more delicious local treats; from sticky mango rice to spicy satay skewers. Enjoy the food in a celebratory atmosphere as live music often completes the vibe.

Day 8: Bioluminescence & Sea Canoes in Phang Nga Bay by Speedboat (B/D)

This morning, you will have free time to relax and enjoy at your leisure. In the afternoon, we will embark on an exciting Bioluminescence & Sea Canoes adventure in the stunning Phang Nga Bay by speedboat.

If you’re looking for a truly unique and memorable experience, then a Discova bioluminescence and sea canoeing tour should be at the very top of your list. This tour offers a spectacular afternoon and early evening out on the water, and will take you on a magical journey through the waters around Phang Nga bay, where you can witness the incredible natural wonder of bioluminescence and enjoy exhilarating sea canoeing activities. What exactly is bioluminescence you might ask! Well, this is the capacity of some creatures to emit light and can be found in numerous forms in the Phang Nga Bay area. One of the most noteworthy instances is the bioluminescent plankton present in the bay’s waters. These tiny organisms emit a bright blue-green light when disturbed, producing a captivating appearance in the water. The phenomenon is caused by chemical reactions within the plankton, which produce light as a by-product. After departing the pier, we stop at the first sea canoe exploration location at Phanak Island (Diamond Cave / Mangrove Cave), and then Hong island. These areas are best done by canoe so that you can see the rock formations and hidden lagoons close up. Next stop is the iconic Koh Tapu, or ‘James Bond Island’, where the Man With The Golden Gun chose to have his lair in the 007 film and the spot to enjoy the majestic sunset and enjoy dinner at local restaurant. Next comes the optimum time to see the bioluminescence, as the sun sets and evening approaches, the water is usually calmer and light from the plankton is more visually impressive. Here you should be lucky enough to see a mesmerizing display of glowing lights that will create lasting memories. The experience of being surrounded by bioluminescent water is truly enchanting, and this combined with sea canoeing and cave exploring makes for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the natural beauty of Phang Nga Bay’s waters.

    * The routing of the trip may be subject to change without prior notice depending on the sea level each day.
